PAUL LANSKY TOUCH AND GO; GWENDOLYN DEASE, PERCUSSION
BRIDGE 9589
Volume 18 of BRIDGE'S Paul Lansky series is a percussion spectacular, featuring the American mallet virtuoso, Gwendolyn Dease. The wide-ranging program includes a percussion solo, a percussion and violin duo, a percussion quartet, and a concerto for percussion and wind ensemble, all by the celebrated American composer Paul Lansky in honor of his 80th birthday. Assisting Ms. Dease are percussionists Ji Hye Jung, Jisu Jung, and Ayano Kataoka; violinist Yvonne Lam; and the Michigan State University Wind Symphony, Kevin Sedatole, conductor.
Reviews:
"The recording is a testament to both the composer’s creative imagination and the devotion to his art by Bridge Records: it is the label’s 18th volume of Lansky’s music. These particular pieces provide ample evidence to justify the loyalty. They are irresistible narratives, full of glistening textures and deft layering of thematic and harmonic ideas, thanks in part to the nuanced performances by percussionist Gwendolyn Dease and friends." — Gramophone
"Dease’s playing has a fluid quality that makes these pieces come alive. She brings phrases and themes that might otherwise get buried in a flurry of notes. And she seems to get the essence of Lanksy’s music. Dease makes these works sound like they’re as fun to play as they are to listen to." — WTJU (Ralph Graves)
