American Tapestry celebrates four composers, Robert Beaser, Aaron Copland, Robert Muczynski and Lowell Liebermann whose musical languages remained distinctly tonal amidst the pervasive compositional climate of mid-20th century American serialism. Each of these composers freely infused their music with popular styles including jazz, folk, pop and musical theater. Remarkable on this recording is the stellar duo playing of Susan Rotholz and Margaret Kampmeier, who combine brilliant instrumental virtuosity with deep understanding of this quintessentially American repertoire.
Reviews:
“A good duo performance of this Stravinskian virtuosic rarity. Rotholz’s got a nice tone in the upper-middle register. Kampmeier is a good supporting player and a star when needed to be. Love that light, swift, and brilliant last movement.” - New Music Connoisseur
