This disc presents the debut concerto recording of the 12th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition silver-medalist, Joyce Yang, heard here in an impassioned 2011 account of Tchaikovsky's masterpiece, recorded in Odense, Denmark. Also on the recording is the rarely heard symphonic fantasy, The Tempest, op. 18. In this work Tchaikovsky evokes Shakespeare's island and the sea around it, both in calm and storm, heard here in Alexander Lazarev and the OSO's intensely powerful reading.
