This CD presents superb readings of two of the finest compositions in the chamber repertoire- Dvorák's F Minor and 'Dumky' trios. In Antonín Dvorák's output we sense continually the competing impulses that shaped his musical character: the urge to master classical forms, to give free rein to an instinctive lyric impulse, and to express the national aspirations and pride of his countrymen. The four published trios neatly encapsulate the course of the composer's artistic development, from his attempts (in Trios Nos. 1 and 2) to attain complete command of the medium in its classic form, to the creation of a mature masterpiece in the Third Trio, and then his highly original transcendence of classical formal restraints in the Fourth Trio, the 'Dumky'. Moreover the trios contain some of the most deeply-felt and personal music in Dvorák's entire output. The New Yorker magazine recently called Trio Solisti "the most exciting piano trio in America." Trio Solisti can also be heard on Café Music (BRIDGE 9296).
Reviews:
“I cannot praise this recording highly enough. This group quite simply creates Dvořák’s sound world and allows you, the listener, to explore it with them. It’s a joint journey, and I for one was happy to be along for the ride.” - Fanfare
“This is a brilliantly performed and vividly recorded compendium of Dvořák’s two final statements in the piano trio genre.” - International Record Review
